Aria Networks: Performance-Optimized AI with Networks that Think

Having spent most of my career in data center networking, I can attest that we’re living through a pivotal, generational moment - one we haven’t seen since the rise of the Internet. Three key factors are driving this shift:

  1. Exploding growth. While the Ethernet Data Center Switch market has grown at mid- to high–single-digit rates annually over the past decade, it’s now growing at 20–30% annually, reaching approximately $60 billion by 2030 - according to the Dell’Oro Group Data Center Switch reports. Within that, Ethernet data center switches deployed in AI Scale-out networks are projected to grow at over 100% CAGR, rising from less than $1 billion in 2023 to nearly $30 billion by 2029 — accounting for roughly half of the total market. When markets explode this fast, incumbents can’t keep pace; gaps form, and customers go underserved.

  2. Drastically changing requirements. For a decade, cloud networking was about cost optimization. Cloud providers treated networks as a commodity. If a network element failed, software layers simply worked around the failures. Enter AI. While networking is 15% of an AI Cluster BOM, any inefficiency or sub optimality in the performance of the cluster can have a significant impact on GPU utilization, and in turn, training or inference time. While cloud networks were cost optimized, AI networks need to be performance optimized. This is a drastic change in networking requirements, which requires drastically new solutions.

  3. Technological advances. Over the last few years, we’ve witnessed advances in fine-grained telemetry access, AI NICs, and AI-optimized network stacks (like NCCL and RCCL) which are enabling levels of visibility previously unthinkable. Meanwhile, the rise of agentic AI is reshaping how software architectures evolve. These advances open the door to uniquely innovative approaches to address AI Networking’s changing requirements.

To participate in this market, innovate at full speed, and deliver transformative solutions, we had to start a company. We named it Aria Networks. And what better partners in this effort than Subhachandra Chandra, Engineering leader at Arista, and who also spent many years building self driving software at Ghost; and Stefan Dyckerhoff at Sutter Hill Ventures.

Fast forward one year. We’re well on our way, and have built a veteran team with expertise in hardware, software, distributed systems, AI, and Cloud. While we’re in the early days of our journey, we decided with OCP around the corner to start unveiling some aspects of our vision and products.
